The Carolina Panthers moved to 13-0 on the season and pitched a shutout against the Atlanta Falcons, but something apparently didn’t sit well with veteran defensive end Charles Johnson.
After the 38-0 victory over his hometown Atlanta Falcons, Johnson sent out two tweets that appeared critical of his lack of playing time in the fourth quarter.
“Good game overall as a TEAM!!?” Johnson tweeted from his account. “(W)hat’s the point of having good pass rushers if u sit them at the beginning of the 4 quarter #KeepPounding
“I thought passer rusher are for situation like today!! Guess not,” he continued in a second tweet that was later deleted.
Johnson, who spent eight weeks on the temporary injured reserve before returning at Dallas, did not have a sack or tackle in his limited action. He made an appearance on the stat sheet only because of a quarterback hit on Matt Ryan at the end of the third quarter.
Johnson declined to expand on his tweets when reached. The tweets could have been out of frustration for Johnson, who has one tackle and two quarterback hits in three games since returning. He did retweet a fan who said Johnson’s comments came from a place where he “just wants to play.”
The Panthers finished with five sacks on the day and held two Atlanta quarterbacks to a combined 56.5 passer rating.
