Carolina Panthers DE Charles Johnson addresses playing-time tweets

Carolina Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson says he met with Ron Rivera about the tweets Johnson posted last week complaining about his playing time late in the 38-0 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

And while Johnson agreed with Rivera that he should have voiced his concerns privately, Johnson failed to see what all the fuss was about.

“Who makes a big deal about a guy that wants to be on the field?” asked Johnson, a team captain. “If we were 2-12, we wouldn’t even be talking about this story.”

Johnson, who missed eight weeks while on short-term injured reserve with a hamstring injury, says he’s been frustrated with his production of late. Johnson, who has a $20 million salary cap number this year, has no sacks in three games since returning.

“I always want to hold myself to a higher standard. So anytime that I don’t think I’m playing at a high standard, anybody would get frustrated,” Johnson said. “But I’ve just got to keep working. That’s all I can do and I’ll just let my work talk for itself.”
