Cornerback Charles Tillman is set to make his return to the field Sunday after missing the past four games with a knee sprain.

Tillman was a full participant in Friday’s practice and is probable to play against the Giants.

“The more time you have, the better it’ll be, for sure,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said of Tillman’s recovery. “It’s one of those things where he got out on Wednesday and started working around, had a lot of confidence in it and is ready to play.”

Rivera said Tillman looked good on all his cuts and breaks, both in live action and on film review.

Tillman did not make himself available in the locker room this week and declined comment on Friday through a team spokesman.

Robert McClain, whom the Panthers signed earlier in the week, will be Tillman’s immediate backup and should see time on the field.

Cortland Finnegan will be the first nickel, and he could slide to outside corner when the Panthers go into their base 4-3 defense.

Tight end Greg Olsen (knee) is also probable to play. Sunday would be his 140th consecutive game played, a streak dating back to his 2007 rookie season and one that is second-most among active tight ends.

Running back Jonathan Stewart (foot) and linebacker David Mayo (hamstring) have been ruled out. Safety Colin Jones (groin) is doubtful.
