Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton makes good on a 14-0 promise
On Nov. 15, Carolina Panthers safety Roman Harper had a few teammates over to his place to watch Thursday Night Football between the Bengals and Browns.
The Panthers were 7-0, with Green Bay coming to town that weekend, and the players were spending some bonding time.
Someone posed a question in the room, as quarterback Cam Newton recalled it on Sunday after Carolina’s 38-35 victory over the Giants.
“Has anybody been 8-0?” someone asked.
Harper spoke up and said he had been there before.
“Yeah, when I was with New Orleans we went 13-0,” Harper said.
“That’s what’s up. How far did you all get?” Newton retorted.
“Oh we lost. We went 13-1,” Harper said.
That’s when Newton said he looked Harper in his eyes.
“I said, ‘Listen here explicit. We’re gonna go 14-0,” Newton told him.
With the win against the Giants, the Panthers are now 14-0. Only three other teams in NFL history have been 14-0.
