Injuries can’t keep Carolina Panthers WR Ted Ginn Jr. out of game
When Carolina Panthers wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. left last week’s game against the Giants with injured ribs, it was announced in the press box that he would be out for the remainder of the game.
But as the Panthers’ 28-point lead shrunk, Ginn made his return to the field in the fourth quarter despite the injury to help his team to an eventual 38-35 victory.
“When you see your team go in a dog fight like they went to, you’ve got to put everything to the side and try to make a play for your team,” Ginn said. “That’s all I did.”
Ginn came back and caught a 12-yard slant pass from Cam Newton with one minute left in the fourth quarter to get a first down. But he suffered a quad contusion on the play, and that lingered this week.
“Ted’s a baller. Ted’s a gamer,” Newton said. “For him to be a warrior with what he showed, it’s just great. He comes to the sideline and his ribs are hurting and you look to him like, if you’re not going to go, who’s going to go? For him to suck it up and give us all he has, it speaks volumes about what kind of person he is, what kind of team we have.”
Ginn was limited in practice Wednesday as the Panthers took practice inside to the convention center ballroom because of rain. He did some of the walk-throughs but was limited in positional drills with receivers.
Rivera said he’s not concerned about Ginn’s availability for Sunday.
Defensive end Charles Johnson (calf) was limited in practice, as was defensive tackle Kyle Love (concussion).
Linebacker David Mayo (hamstring) and running back Jonathan Stewart (foot) were not at practice. Both will likely be ruled out on Friday.
