Panthers’ Josh Norman addresses Bucs’ ‘peasant’ Mike Evans
Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans finished 1 yard shy of 100 receiving yards, and he may have gotten it had he not been ejected in the fourth quarter of Carolina’s 38-10 victory on Sunday.
Evans hauled in four catches for 99 yards, though it’s unclear if any of those came against Panthers cornerback Josh Norman.
Norman, who is beginning to build himself a reputation around the league, didn’t hold back after the game.
“It was like a peasant throwing rocks at a giant. That’s what happened,” Norman said. “I don’t think he was ready for the matchup. Think I was more ready than him. Overall it was a team effort. The defense came out and put the pressure early. The first play of the game, I was coming out there trying to be easy but he activated me on the second play. That’s what happened. I guess he couldn’t handle his emotions.”
With just more than 3 minutes left in the game, Tampa quarterback Jameis Winston looked deep to Evans in the end zone but threw long, and the ball was nearly intercepted by Norman.
Four plays later, Winston again looked for Evans, who was covered by Norman and safety Roman Harper. Evans complained to the official about not getting a pass interference call, and that’s why he was flagged twice for “disrespectfully addressing an official.”
“I thought it was an obvious pass interference call,” Evans said. “I didn’t get it and I thought it was because we were getting blown out. He told me don’t bring my (blank) over there to talk to him and I was like that’s some B.S.. I don’t think I did enough to get ejected but I’ll take the punishment.”
