Carolina Panthers sign CB Lou Young off practice squad
The Carolina Panthers signed cornerback Lou Young off their practice squad Tuesday and placed Charles Tillman on injured reserve after the veteran corner tore the ACL in his right knee during Sunday's win against Tampa Bay.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera said recently acquired Robert McClain would replace Tillman the corner spot opposite Josh Norman. Cortland Finnegan, another newcomer, will remain at nickel back.
Young is expected to compete with special teams regular Teddy Williams for the No. 4 corner.
Young, 24, joined the Panthers' practice squad late in 2014 and spent all of this season on it. At 6-1 and 205 pounds, Young has the type of size the Panthers like in their corners.
Young had a strong showing during organized team activities last spring, but has never played in a regular-season game. Young has been with four teams in two years after going undrafted out of Georgia Tech, where he had four interceptions and 12 pass breakups in 49 games.
