Panthers DC Sean McDermott passed over by Browns and Bucs, focused on Seahawks
As two doors closed on potential head coaching jobs, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott remained focused on beating Seattle.
McDermott interviewed last weekend for head coaching vacancies in Tampa Bay and Cleveland. He said the interview process went well, but the Browns filled their spot this week with Hue Jackson. The Buccaneers hired offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter Thursday night.
“(A) real positive experience,” McDermott said Thursday. “And that was last week and this was this week and my focus is on Seattle and our players and playing as well as we can this Sunday.”
McDermott said he appreciated the support from coach Ron Rivera, general manager Dave Gettleman and his players.
“Everything happens for a reason,” McDermott said. “I’ve got a great job here and I work with a great group of men and women and we love Charlotte. Like I always say, the Lord has bigger plans. We’ll see what those are.”
