Panthers coach Ron Rivera will bring Super Bowl XX ring to Santa Clara
Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera will pack all the usual items for his trip to the Bay Area and Super Bowl 50.
This time, though, he’ll be bringing more jewelry.
Rivera plans to bring his Super Bowl XX ring from the 1985 Chicago Bears victory, he said Friday.
Rivera won’t wear it while coaching from the sideline at Levi’s Stadium against the Denver Broncos on Feb. 7, but he’ll be sure to show it to his players at some point.
“It’s one of those things that I’ve tried to make the point that it represents everything that you’ve gone through and the people who have played,” Rivera said. “It’s not necessarily about the ring, it’s about what it stands for.”
The ’85 Bears went 15-1 and beat the Patriots 46-10. The team celebrated its 30th anniversary earlier in the week in Chicago, and Rivera used the video app Skype to say hello to his old teammates.
Rivera said he only brings out the ring for special events.
Super Bowl 50 qualifies.
