Free agent Brandon Boykin has a visit scheduled this week with the Carolina Panthers, who are looking for a nickel cornerback in their reconfigured secondary. Boykin, the Philadelphia Eagles’ fourth-round pick in 2012, will be in Charlotte on Monday, a league source said.
Boykin, 25, played sparingly for Pittsburgh for much of last season after the Steelers acquired him from Philadelphia in August. But the former Georgia standout played well late as his playing time increased.
Boykin, who is 5-foot-9 and 183 pounds, picked off Colts quarterback Matt Hasselbeck during Boykin’s first series in a Dec. 6 game at Pittsburgh, and he had four tackles and a sack against Baltimore three weeks later.
The Panthers are looking for a nickel after deciding this offseason to move Bené Benwikere from the slot to outside cornerback opposite Josh Norman.
