Vernon Butler

Ht.: 6-4. Wt.: 323.

Position: Defensive tackle

College: Louisiana Tech

What he offers: A defensive force along the line. Panthers general manager can’t help himself, and Butler will be a run-stuffer who can also get into the backfield. Butler is built very nicely to keep on 323 pounds.

Worth mentioning: At 35  1/8-inches, Butler has tremendously long arms. That will help him along the inside of the line as he tries to discard offensive linemen. ... He collected 29  1/2 tackles for loss during his four-year career at Louisiana Tech. ... Some have made the comparison to New York Jets tackle Muhammad Wilkerson.

Bet you didn’t know: Butler had offers from Mississippi State, Mississippi and Southern Miss but decided on Louisiana Tech.

What they’re saying: “Stack the D-line” – Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson
