NFL Network analysts name Cam Newton as league’s top player
And the best player in the NFL is?
Hint, it’s not Tom Brady. It’s not Aaron Rodgers. It’s not J.J. Watt.
According to two NFL Network analysts, the best player in the league is none other than Carolina Panthers’ QB Cameron Jerrell Newton.
On Friday’s live “NFL Total Access” show, analysts Solomon Wilcox and Willie McGinest both listed their top five players in the league. Newton sat atop both lists. For McGinest, Brady was No. 2 followed by Watt, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown.
"What can you say,” McGinest said of Newton, “he's the best player in the league."
For Wilcox, Newton was followed by Watt, Brady, Brown and Gronkowski.
Yes, both guys have the same five players in their top five. And both guys have the same No. 1.
Newton, of course, led the Panthers to a 15-1 regular-season record in 2015, earning the NFL’s MVP award. He earned 48 of 50 votes.
