Following his arrest Saturday, former Carolina Panthers lineman Frank Garcia was suspended from his high school football coaching duties at Charlotte Catholic, the school announced Monday.

Garcia will not join the team this week for practice or at Saturday’s N.C. High School Athletic Association state championship game. Catholic will play Jacksonville Saturday in Chapel Hill for the N.C. 3A title.

Garcia was charged with misdemeanor assault on a female. The victim, a 29-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment, according to the police report.

Garcia is also a host of an afternoon sports talk show on WFNZ, 610-AM, called “Garcia and Bailey.” He did not appear on the show Monday. The Observer reached out to the parent company of WFNZ, Entercom, about Garcia’s future, but did not get a response.

At Charlotte Catholic, school principal Kurt Telford sent a note to the school’s community, notifying them that Garcia had been suspended.
