Sunny conditions expected for Panthers pep rally Friday

It’s supposed to be sunny, mid-50s with zero percent of rain Friday – ideal conditions for the pep rally that will be held in Romare Bearden Park to send off the Carolina Panthers before they leave for the Super Bowl in Santa Clara, Calif.

Panthers players, Sir Purr, the TopCats, the PurrCussion drumline and the Black & Blue Crew all will make appearances. The Panthers will give will be given out 2,500 pom-poms, along with other team swag.

Music and entertainment will be from noon to 1 p.m. The program takes place from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Friday’s rally is a rain-or-shine event, unlike the previous Charlotte Center City Partners rally before the NFC Championship Game that was canceled because of weather.

The uptown event will be the first pep rally to be held in the uptown park, which is at 300 S. Church St.

The Panthers depart for California on Sunday. They play the Denver Broncos Feb. 7 at 6:30 EST at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara.

Here are the road closures for Friday’s rally:

▪ Mint Street between MLK and 4th: closes 9:30 a.m. Friday

▪ 3rd Street between Church and Mint: closes 11 a.m. Friday

▪ MLK between Church and Mint: closes 11 a.m. Friday

▪ Westbound MLK between Mint and Graham: closes 11 a.m. Friday
