Beware of your television during the Super Bowl.

That’s the message from U.S. Sen. Robert P. Casey Jr. of Pennsylvania, who sent an open letter to retailers like Best Buy and Walmart on Thursday, asking them to raise community awareness of TV tip overs.

Casey tied his warning to National TV Safety Day, which is Saturday, but his staff said the warning takes on added significance as many Americans prepare to gather in front of their TVs for the Super Bowl on Sunday.

“I write to draw your attention to the dangers that television and media stand tipovers present to our nation’s children,” he wrote. “According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, a child dies every two weeks as a result of a tipover; a majority of these deaths involve televisions and the furniture they are placed on.”
