Panthers Tracks: Skipped the turkey on Thanksgiving. Keep Pounding those leftovers

Good morning, Panthers fans. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and got to share it with the people you care about most.

With this being my family’s first Thanksgiving in North Carolina, away from our families back in Colorado and Oklahoma, Thursday was quite a stark contrast to the large dinner-table conversations (and dramatics) we’ve been used to. But there was a unique calmness that settled in over our home with just the three of us for the first time, watching football, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show (a family tradition on my wife’s side) and ‘Frozen’ three times as I spent the day cooking my late grandmother’s special queso recipe, chicken wings, green beans, corn, biscuits and potatoes — mashed and baked.

You may have noticed what’s missing from that list. I’m simply not a big turkey guy, my wife doesn’t eat meat and it’s not as if my 2-year-old cares which fowl warms her belly — why not break from tradition to start our own?

Thanksgiving was an incredible day in my home full of laughs and heartburn. I realize that has nothing to do with the Panthers, but it’s the day after Thanksgiving, a time many of us treasure for being able to spend with family, and I wanted to give you a small peak into mine. I hope yours was just as enjoyable.

We’ll return to your regularly scheduled Panthers Tracks programming Monday morning following Carolina’s game against Washington. Until then, keep pounding those leftovers.
