Black Friday matinee, busy March highlight Checkers’ 2024-25 AHL schedule
A Black Friday matinee, four home games the week before Christmas, and a very busy March highlight the Charlotte Checkers’ 2024-25 American Hockey League schedule announced Thursday.
Charlotte will open its 72-game AHL schedule on the road, facing Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Oct. 12.
The home opener will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 18, a Friday night, against the Cleveland Monsters. The Checkers and Monsters also will play the following night at Bojangles Coliseum.

Facing the champs
Charlotte will face two-time defending AHL Calder Cup champion Hershey for the first time on Nov. 2 and 3 in Pennsylvania.
The Checkers and Bears will play in Charlotte on Jan. 10 and 11. The teams will have two other games in Hershey and two more in Charlotte.
Black Friday hockey
Charlotte-area sports fans looking for some non-football, non-shopping distractions over the Thanksgiving weekend will have a pair of home hockey games. The Checkers and Iowa Wild will play at 4 p.m. Black Friday (Nov. 29) and again at 4 p.m. the next day.
Twas the week before Christmas
As has become customary in recent years, the Checkers will have four home games on the week before Christmas.
Charlotte will host Springfield at 7 p.m. Dec. 17 and 18 and then entertain Bridgeport at 4 p.m. Dec. 21 and 22, the Saturday and Sunday before Christmas.
The Checkers then hit the road for four games between Dec. 28 and Jan. 3.
March Madness, Checkers style
The Checkers will be tired hockey players by April Fools Day, as they’ll play 15 games in March — seven on the road and eight at home. Charlotte plays no more than 12 games in any other month.
