After slow start, Checkers surge past Wild
In Charlotte’s final meeting of the season with Iowa, a monster second period propelled the Checkers to a 4-2 victory Sunday, their second straight win in the series.
After a scoreless first, the Wild jumped on the board on a converted wrap-around by Marc Hagel 5 minutes, 51 seconds into the second. Brody Sutter of the Checkers deflected in a point blast from Beau Schmitz to tie the score 61 seconds later.
Then the Checkers piled on the offense, with Chad LaRose and Justin Shugg each scoring to push Charlotte ahead by two.
