The team’s final two home games at Time Warner Cable Arena, before relocating to Bojangles’ Coliseum next season, come this weekend against Rockford on Saturday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m. ... Carolina Hurricanes 2014 first-round pick (No. 7 overall) Haydn Fleury joined the Checkers on Wednesday. The 6-foot-3 defenseman is ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the Canes system. Fleury’s junior team, the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League, was recently eliminated from the playoffs, freeing him up for an appearance in Charlotte. Fleury, 18, has been a force on the blue line over the past three seasons, totaling 93 points (18 goals, 75 assists) in 199 games with Red Deer. He led all Rebels defensemen in scoring during the 2013-14 season and ranked second this season. If he were to make it into a game this weekend, he would be the youngest player to ever don a Checkers sweater at 18 years, 277 days. Elias Lindholm, who made the first of his six appearances last season at 18 years, 340 days, currently holds that mark. ... Fleury is the fourth rookie defenseman to join the Checkers late in the season, alongside Brett Pesce, Roland McKeown and Josh Wesley. ... The Hurricanes recalled Keegan Lowe on Wednesday and reassigned Danny Biega to Charlotte. Lowe got into his first two NHL fights Thursday. ... The Checkers are 5-4-1-0 over their past 10 games; Rockford enters having won four straight and are 8-2 over their past 10. ... Fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to Sunday’s game.
