Canes’ Aho helps Metro win NHL All-Star Game
Sebastian Aho’s first NHL All-Star experience proved to be enriching.
The Carolina Hurricanes center was able to join the league’s best in San Jose, Calif., taking part in the skills competition Friday and then the three-on-three tournament on Saturday. Aho made the most of it, helping the Metropolitan Division team win the tournament and the $1 million prize to be split by the winners.
Aho, 21, had two goals and an assist as the Metro team defeated the Atlantic Division team 7-4 and Central Division 10-5 for the All-Star title. An Aho goal gave the Metro a 7-3 lead in the championship game at SAP Center.
In the skills competition, Aho finished second in the “premier passer” event, his time of 1:18.5 topped by that of Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl, who posted a time of 1:09.1.
Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins was named the All-Star MVP with four goals and four assists for the Metro team in the two games.
After the Canes’ mandated bye week, they resume the season Friday, Feb. 1 against the Vegas Golden Knights at PNC Arena.
