College Baseball Roundup: Pittsburgh Panthers outslug North Carolina Tar Heels
Charles Leblanc’s three-run single in the seventh broke a 9-9 tie and Pitt held on for a 12-9 win against North Carolina Friday at Cost Field.
After UNC fell behind 8-3, Skye Bolt’s three-run homer capped a four-run sixth to give the Tar Heels (11-6, 2-2 ACC) a 9-8 lead. But the host Panthers (7-8, 2-2) tied it in the bottom of the inning before Leblanc’s big hit off Trent Thornton in the seventh provided the winning margin in the series opener.
Georgia Tech 5, Duke 2: Daniel Spingola had three hits for the Yellow Jackets (13-4, 3-1 ACC), who pounded out 11 overall.
Mike Matuella allowed three hits and struck out four in four innings in the no decision for the Blue Devils (13-4, 1-3).
East Carolina 10, Elon 3: Bryce Harman hit an RBI triple and Charlie Yorgen homered for the visiting Pirates (11-6).
Matt Harris took the loss for the Phoenix (8-7) after allowing seven runs on 10 hits in six innings.
South Carolina 10, Kentucky 1: Wil Crowe struck out nine and Max Schrock hit a grand slam for the host Gamecocks (15-3, 1-0 SEC).
Kentucky (13-4, 0-1) had just one hit.
