Stephen Woodard shot 3-under-par 68 Saturday to take a one-shot lead into Sunday’s final round of the Charlotte City Amateur. Woodard, who shot his 68 at Carmel Country Club’s North Course, has a 36-hole total of 3-under 139.

Walker Simas shot 2-under 69 at the par-71 Carmel North and trails by one going into the final round, which will be played at Quail Hollow Club, using the same hole locations that were used in the final round of the PGA Championship. Simas finished 36 holes at 140.

Woodard made six birdies in his 68, including four on the back nine at Carmel North, which gave him a 3-under 32 in which he made birdies on three of his last five holes. He shot even-par 71 in the tournament’s first round at Cedarwood Country Club on Friday.

Simas matched Woodard’s 71 in the first round and made five birdies in his 69. Simas and Woodard birdied the par-4 finishing hole at Carmel North.

Will Stewart, who shot one of two under-par rounds at Cedarwood on Friday, a 1-under 70, shot even-par 71 on Saturday and sits in third at 1-under 141. Matt Kilgo and Bailey Patrick each matched par-71s the first two days and are tied for fourth at 142.

First-round leader Chad Foltz, who shot 2-under 69 at Cedarwood, slipped to 76 Saturday and is at 4-over 146, seven shots back of the lead.

Six-time City Amateur champion Joe Jaspers is at 146 after rounds of 72-74. He is joined there by Nick Karageorgos, who shot the low round of the championship, a 4-under 67 on Saturday.

Only 55 players survived the first round cut at Cedarwood and the low 24 players after Saturday qualified to play Sunday’s final round at Quail Hollow.
