Stephen Woodard shoots 68, takes one-shot lead into final round of City Amateur
Stephen Woodard shot 3-under-par 68 Saturday to take a one-shot lead into Sunday’s final round of the Charlotte City Amateur. Woodard, who shot his 68 at Carmel Country Club’s North Course, has a 36-hole total of 3-under 139.
Walker Simas shot 2-under 69 at the par-71 Carmel North and trails by one going into the final round, which will be played at Quail Hollow Club, using the same hole locations that were used in the final round of the PGA Championship. Simas finished 36 holes at 140.
Woodard made six birdies in his 68, including four on the back nine at Carmel North, which gave him a 3-under 32 in which he made birdies on three of his last five holes. He shot even-par 71 in the tournament’s first round at Cedarwood Country Club on Friday.
Simas matched Woodard’s 71 in the first round and made five birdies in his 69. Simas and Woodard birdied the par-4 finishing hole at Carmel North.

First-round leader Chad Foltz, who shot 2-under 69 at Cedarwood, slipped to 76 Saturday and is at 4-over 146, seven shots back of the lead.
Six-time City Amateur champion Joe Jaspers is at 146 after rounds of 72-74. He is joined there by Nick Karageorgos, who shot the low round of the championship, a 4-under 67 on Saturday.
