Saturday: N.C. mountain trout season opens at 7 a.m. on waters carrying “hatchery supported” classification. Creel limit is seven per day. There are no size or bait restrictions.

Saturday: 36th Annual Lake Norman Shrine Club/Dogwood Bass Tournament. Based at Midway Marina in Terrell. Proceeds benefit Shriner Children’s Hospital. Information: William Cork, 704-516-0506 or wbcork@yahoo.com.

Saturday-April 10: Special wild turkey hunting days in N.C. for youths younger than 16.

Wednesday: Outdoors Day, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, Corolla. Free admission to event sponsored by N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. Fishing, archery, crabbing, shooting and kayaking, various demonstrations of outdoors-related topics. National park rangers from the Alligator River and Pea Island refuges will be present to discuss their seasonal tours, canoe outings and other programs. April 11-May 9: Statewide N.C. hunting season for male and bearded turkeys only.

April 16: Top Shelf Fishing Festival For Wounded Warriors, Lake Norman, Pinnacle Access Area. A meal for military veterans will be held at Berea Baptist Church. Volunteers in their boats guide the vets for a free day of fishing (more volunteers are needed). Information: mailbox@operationnorthstate.com.

April 25: 37th Annual Youth Hunter Skills Tournament for high school and middle school competitors, Millstone 4-H Center, Ellerbe.

April 30 (tentative): End of striped bass season, Roanoke River.
