Wolfpack women’s golf third in NCAA regional, advances to championships

N.C. State not only hosted an NCAA golf regional this week at Lonnie Poole Golf Course but made the most of it.

The Wolfpack, seeded 11th in the 18-team field, finished third Saturday in the Raleigh Regional, advancing to the NCAA Championships. The Pack had an 887 total in the 54-hole event, 23 over par.

Campbell also was among the top six teams advancing to the nationals. South Carolina, ranked second nationally, won the regional by eight shots over Northwestern.

Senior Vivian Tsui had a 1-under 71 in the final round for the Pack. Rachael Taylor and Cecily Overbey each had 72 as N.C. State posted a 3-over 291 total to tie Northwestern for the low team score in the final round.

Campbell, which finished sixth at 892, got a 72 from Louise Latorre.

Madelene Sagstrom of LSU, the nation’s second-ranked player, took medalist honors at 8-under 208. Taylor tied for fifth at even-par 216.

The NCAA Championships will be held May 22-27 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
