Update: Martin Flores and Patrick Rodgers tied atop Wells Fargo Championship
2:15 p.m. update
The world’s top golfer is one stroke off the lead at the Wells Fargo Championship.
Rory McIlroy turned in a bogey-free round of 67 Friday to get to 7-under for the tournament and is in a tied for third with Will MacKenzie and Robert Streb.
That trio is chasing Martin Flores and Patrick Rodgers, who sit at 8-under.
Of the top 15 names on the leaderboard, only Streb remains on the course, and he’s only through three holes.
12:10 p.m.
Martin Flores and Kevin Chappell lead the field as the morning turns to the afternoon. Flores finished the Green Mile at 1-over par to turn in a 5-under 67, and he’s tied with Chappell at 8-under.
Chappell, who entered Friday at 6-under, finished the front nine even but birdied two of his first three back-nine holes.
Russell Knox, Geoff Ogilvy, Will MacKenzie and Patrick Rodgers have joined first-round leader Robert Streb in third place at 7-under.
10:30 a.m. update
Martin Flores birdied No. 10 to take the lead but gave it back at the par-4 12th, and he’s now in a tie with Robert Streb for the lead at 7-under.
Ricky Barnes went birdie-birdie on 13 and 14 to get into a tie for third at 6-under.
This will probably be the last chance to catch fan-favorite Adam Scott. Scott shot 4-over in his first nine holes and sits in a tie for 121st at 3-over. With eight holes to go, it’s probable he will miss the cut, which currently projects at 1-under.
9:15 a.m. update
Martin Flores has the hot start Friday morning at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club. Flores, who finished third last season, has birdied four straight holes and is 3-under for the day, tied for second with Michael Thompson and Kevin Chappell at 6-under for the tournament.
That trio trails leader Robert Streb (7 under), who tees off at 1:30 p.m.
Patrick Reed, who started the day tied for second, bogeyed No. 10 and is 1 over for the day. Rory McIlroy is playing with Reed and has moved to 4-under for the tournament after birdies on Nos. 10 and 13.
