Chicago White Sox’s top prospect joins Charlotte Knights

One of baseball’s top young prospects is now a member of the Charlotte Knights.

The Chicago White Sox organization promoted outfielder Eloy Jimenez from Class AA Birmingham to the AAA Charlotte Knights on Thursday.

Also making the jump were two other players who, along with Jimenez, recently played in the Southern League All-Star Game – catcher Seby Zavala and right-handed pitcher Ian Hamilton.

Jimenez, 21, is ranked as the White Sox No. 1 prospect and No. 4 among all minor league players. He batted .317 this season at Birmingham, with 36 runs, 15 doubles, 10 home runs and 42 RBI in 53 games. He was second in the Southern League in batting average and RBIs and first in slugging percentage (.556).

Jimenez was among the top acquisitions of the White Sox when they traded pitcher Jose Quintana to the Chicago Cubs last July.

Zavala, 24, played in 56 games with Birmingham, batting .271 with 11 homers and 31 RBIs. He hit 21 home runs last summer in Class A.

Hamilton, 23, appeared in 21 games this season with Birmingham, compiling a 2-1 record with a 1.78 ERA and 12 saves.

Jimenez, Zavala and Hamilton join another top White Sox prospect, pitcher Michael Kopech, on the Knights’ roster. Kopech is among the International League’s strikeout leaders.

It is not clear if the three players will be available to the Knights in time for Thursday’s 7:04 p.m. home game against Columbus, but they should be in uniform for home games Friday and Saturday nights (7:04 p.m.) and Sunday (2:05 p.m.) against Toledo.
