Davidson earns first A-10 baseball tournament win

Davidson earned its first A-10 baseball tournament win, recording 17 hits in a 10-2 victory against Saint Louis in an elimination game.

Davidson (27-21) advanced to another elimination game on Friday night against George Washington (visit charlotteobserver.com for results).

Davidson scored five runs in the second inning, highlighted by a 2-RBI double by David Daniels.

Rob Bain (6-4), tossing seven innings and giving up two runs on 11 hits, striking out three with no walks.


Notre Dame 8, Virginia 2: Cavan Biggio hit a two-run triple for the Fighting Irish. The son of upcoming Hall of Fame inductee Craig Biggio got his hit in the sixth inning off reliever Brandon Waddell to help the third-seeded Fighting Irish (36-20) improve to 1-1 in pool play.

Matt Thaiss had a two-run double in the third to pull the seventh-seeded Cavaliers (34-21) to 3-2.

North Carolina 6, Clemson 3: J.B. Bukauskas pitched 52/3 strong innings and Skye Bolt hit a three-run homer in the third inning to lift North Carolina (34-24). The Tigers fell to 32-27.

Coastal Carolina 9, High Point 3: The host Chanticleers got another superb start from a career relief pitcher in while freshmen Seth Lancaster and Josh Crump each had 2 RBIs to advance to the program’s 18th title game in Boiling Springs.

Second seed Coastal Carolina (38-18) will face top seed Radford Saturday at 4.

Sophomore Andrew Beckwith (5-4) made his first career start in his 55th appearance.

Radford 4, Winthrop 2: Josh Reavis turned in the defensive play of the game to prevent Winthrop from taking the lead in the seventh and then hit a two-run go-ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth to lead Radford (42-14) to a berth in the final.

The Eagles conclude their season at 40-19.
