Charlotte enters Saturday’s match in eighth place in the USL Eastern Conference, three points out of the final playoff spot. The Independence is unbeaten in its past three USL games with a 2-0-1 record. Charlotte is 4-1-2 in home USL matches this season. ... Saint Louis sits in ninth place in the USL Eastern Conference standings, one point behind Charlotte. Saint Louis is 0-3-4 in its past seven matches and has scored only four goals during that span. Despite the team’s offensive struggles, Saint Louis has surrendered one goal or fewer in six of its past seven matches. ... The Independence said Friday that goalkeeper Matt Lampson from the Columbus Crew SC of Major League Soccer has been received on a six-match loan. Lampson has appeared in 16 games for Columbus since signing with the team on Dec. 15, 2011 and was previously loaned to USL side Pittsburgh Riverhounds for a match against Charlotte on June 13. Starting goalkeeper John Berner has been out since May 27 with injuries he sustained against the Carolina Railhawks and is expected to be out three to four more weeks.
