MLB, AAA all-star games, CONCACAF soccer, triathlon highlight week ahead

Tuesday

The debate might continue about whether fans should be voting for the Major League All-Star Game, but it’s time to play (7:30 p.m., Fox) at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park. The defending American League-champ Kansas City Royals have three starters after outfielder Alex Gordon withdrew because of an injury. National League voting was led by Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper. Winning league gets home field advantage for the World Series.

Tuesday

Racing continues at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Summer Shootout featuring Legend cars and Bandoleros. Kids will also race in the Little Luggies 600, on their personal motorized power wheels. Racing begins at 5:10 p.m. Tickets: 800-455-3267 or at charlottemotorspeedway.com.

Wednesday

International soccer returns to Charlotte’s Bank of America with a CONCACAF doubleheader featuring Cuba vs. Guatemala at 6 p.m., followed by Mexico vs. Trinidad & Tobago at 8:30 p.m. Both games area on Fox Sports 2. Tickets: www.concacaf.com/tickets.

Wednesday

Charlotte Knights pitcher Erik Johnson and third baseman Matt Davidson are starters for the International League against the Pacific Coast League in the Triple-A All-Star game in Omaha, Neb. (8:05 p.m., MLB Network). Knights outfielder Trayce Thompson and reliever Zach Phillips also made the IL team, with Davidson participating in Monday’s Triple-A Home Run Derby.

Saturday

The Adult and Kids’ Tri! Ballantyne and Tri! Fest is set for the Morrison Family YMCA (405 Bryant Farms Road) with three events beginning at 7 a.m. Proceeds from Tri!
