The Independence continues its late-season playoff push in the United Soccer League against the Hammerheads … Charlotte is unbeaten (5-0-5) in its past 10 games and beat the Hammerheads 1-0 on Wednesday in Wilmington. … With four games left in the regular season, the Independence is tied for fifth in the USL’s Eastern Division, with the top six teams making the playoffs. … Independence midfielder Jorge Herrera, who has been out with a calf injury, assisted on Bilal Duckett’s game-winning goal against Wilmington (Herrera averages .43 assists per game, second in the USL). ... Charlotte is without defender Mechack Jerome, who is out for a week playing for Haiti’s national team in two World Cup qualifiers against Grenada. ... Hammerheads midfielder Justin Moose is a former Wake Forest player from Statesville.
