Outdoors events calendar for 12.17.15

Thursday through Jan. 30: N.C. season on woodcock.

Jan. 1: End of regular firearms deer season in N.C. western counties. Information: ncwildlife.org.

Jan. 2: Basic fly fishing clinics, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Pechmann Fishing Education Center, Fayetteville. Additional clinics will be held Jan. 16 and Jan. 30 at the same time and location. Jan. 15: End of final segment of S.C. dove season. Shooting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset.

Feb. 13: Intermediate Fly Fishing Clinic, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Pechmann Fishing Education Center, Fayetteville. Conducted by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. Registration fee of $5. Information: John E. Pechmann Education Center webpage.

Feb. 27: End of N.C. season on common snipe.

Feb. 27-28: Fly Fishing Merit Badge Clinic for Boy Scouts age 11 and older, Pechman Fishing Education Center, Fayetteville. Overnight camping for troops available. Maximum 10 scouts from each troop. Loaner equipment available. Information: John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center webpage.

Feb. 29: End of statewide N.C. hunting seasons for quail, rabbit, gray and red squirrel, raccoon, bobcat and opossum.

Feb. 29: End of season in Western N.C. counties for mountain grouse.
