April 30: End of striped bass season on the Roanoke River and its major tributaries.
May 5: End of S.C. wild turkey hunting season, gobblers only, on private lands and on wildlife management areas.
May 7: End of statewide N.C. wild turkey hunting season for gobblers only.
May 7-14: Far Out Shootout, offshore fishing tournament, based at Ocean Isle Fishing Center. Entrants may fish and enter catches from one of eight possible days. Must declare choice of day before competing. Entry fee $300 per boat by May 6, $350 afterward. Information: 910-575-3474 or www.oifc.com.
