The Wells Fargo Championship returns to Quail Hollow Club beginning Monday with practice rounds. Here’s what to watch:

Players to watch

The big names: Although the world’s top two players – Jason Day and Jordan Spieth – aren’t playing, six of the world’s top 10 will be at Quail Hollow (in addition to 10 of the top 20). Two-time and defending champion Rory McIlroy, ranked third, leads the field. Fifth-ranked and 2013 champion Rickie Fowler, sixth-ranked Henrik Stenson, No. 7 Adam Scott, No. 8 Dustin Johnson and No. 10 Justin Rose will also play.

Local flair: Several golfers with Charlotte ties will play, including Queen City natives Davis Love III and Bill Haas. Charlotte residents Webb Simpson, Brendon de Jonge and Johnson Wagner, as well as rookie and Gastonia native Harold Varner III, are also in the field.

The youngster: Bryson DeChambeau, 22, who was so impressive as an amateur at the Masters (where he finished tied for 21st), is in the field. DeChambeau has since turned pro and finished tied for fourth at Hilton Head in his first tournament as a pro.

Where’s Phil? Phil Mickelson is playing for a 12th consecutive year at Quail Hollow. He’s never won the Wells Fargo Championship but he has eight top-10 finishes, including a tie for fourth in 2015.

Where’s Tiger? He’s not playing, although there was Internet speculation recently that he might make his comeback at Quail Hollow. The only indication of Woods playing this season is his registering for the U.S. Open (which is not the same as entering).

Course changes

There are no changes to the course, but soon after the tournament ends, three holes on the front nine – first, second and fifth – will be altered for the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. The par-4 11th might also be changed.

What’s new?

Family Care Center (Green Mile Village on 16th fairway in first aid tent): A spot for families to take care of needs of young children (including diaper changing and breast feeding).

Cell phone policy: It’s now OK to take photos with cell phones, as long as it’s not while a player is executing a shot on the course.

Community Courtyard (Champions Park, near 10th fairway): The tournament’s three charitable partners – Teach For America, The Levine Children’s Hospital and First Tee of Greater Charlotte – will have activities for children, open Thursday through Sunday.

Social media hub: This has been relocated to the ninth green. Activities include fans taking selfies with cutouts of players.

Mother’s Day “Pink Out”: Sunday will begin with a 7 a.m. sunrise service at the 18th green. Fans are encouraged to wear pink for Mother’s Day.

Uber lot: A pick up-drop off lot for commercial vehicles (including Uber, taxis and limousines) will be on Gleneagles Road, within walking distance of Quail Hollow Club. First-time Uber users can download the app and enter promo code WFCGOLF16 for a free first ride (up to $20). New users can also sign up online at www.uber.com/go/wfcgolf16. Existing users can get $20 off by signing up someone who hasn’t tried Uber before.
