App State icon Armanti Edwards to appear Saturday at book signing for ‘Sports Legends’
Armanti Edwards, who starred for Appalachian State as one of the best college quarterbacks to ever play in the Carolinas, is scheduled to appear at a book signing at Audi Charlotte (9300 East Independence Blvd.) on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Books will be available for purchase there at $40 each, with the proceeds from the event going to charity.
Edwards led the Mountaineers to FCS national championships in both 2006 and 2007, as well as an extraordinary road win over Michigan that is still widely considered the biggest upset in college football history. Edwards was a third-round draft pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2010, and the Panthers converted him to wide receiver. Edwards later had a successful career as a wide receiver in the CFL.
Proceeds from the books sold at Edwards’ appearance will go to The Charlotte Observer’s Empty Stocking Fund, which provides money to the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte’s Angel Tree program.
Appalachian State retired Edwards’ No. 14 jersey at a ceremony in November. During his four years in Boone with the Mountaineers, Edwards was a four-time first-team All-American, the first two-time FCS National Player of the Year (Walter Payton Award) and a two-time national champion.
Edwards had 139 total touchdowns at App State, with 74 coming through the pass and 65 through the run. He went 42-7 as a starter, including the historic 34-32 upset of No. 5 Michigan that opened App State’s 2007 championship season.
The “Sports Legends of the Carolinas” book, a project of The Charlotte Observer and Pediment Publishing, features Edwards and 32 other sports icons in a coffee-table book that consists of exclusive one-on-one interviews and more than 100 rare and one-of-a-kind photographs. The book’s authors, writer Scott Fowler and photographer Jeff Siner, will also sign copies of the book at Saturday’s event.
The book is also available at SportsLegendsBook.com, as well as at Park Road Books in Charlotte and Main Street Books in Davidson.
