Quick takes: HB2, Gov. Pat McCrory and, unrelated, my Panthers-49ers pick

How far right has N.C. moved under Governor Pat McCrory’s leadership? This far, Tom Sorensen says.

The NCAA reacted to House Bill 2 Monday by yanking seven events, foremost among them the first two rounds of the men’s basketball tournament, out of N.C. HB2 is the gift that keeps on taking.

The bill says that, on public property, people must use the bathroom that corresponds to the gender on their birth certificate. In other words, if you were born a man but become a woman, you still have to use a men’s bathroom.

I consider Gov. Pat McCrory a friend. But the last four years N.C. has moved so far right that when I fly into Charlotte-Douglas International Airport I expect it to be in the Atlantic Ocean.

▪  I’m 0-1 this season on my Panthers’ predictions. I picked them to beat Denver by two. Before the season I predicted a 10-6 record for Carolina. I like the Panthers to beat San Francisco Sunday by nine.
