Will Dave Gettleman survive the week? Will Panthers survive New Orleans?

The rumors have started. Carolina general manager Dave Gettleman is in trouble. The Panthers might fire him.

No, they might not.

But wait. Didn’t the Panthers fire general manager Marty Hurney four years ago this month? That was the story the Panthers put out. But, no they didn’t. Hurney’s departure was much more complicated. He could have stayed if he were willing to make changes. He wasn’t. Gettleman was a heck of a general manager when the season began. He still is.

▪  I am 2-3 predicting Panthers games this season. I got the victory against San Francisco and the loss to Atlanta but missed everything else. Carolina plays New Orleans on the road Sunday. The New Orleans trip was always my favorite because the teams are such intense rivals and – and, OK, New Orleans is my favorite city in the U.S. To go there is to leave the U.S., and the planet, without leaving the U.S. or the planet. I like the Saints 33-29.
