New barbecue restaurant has party plans for University City
When it opens its third location in Charlotte, this time on J.M. Keynes Drive, the City Barbeque chain plans to throw a party.
The restaurant will open at 10 a.m. June 19 if you can’t wait. Then, on June 24, it will throw a grand-opening party with kids’ entertainment, prizes and appearances by Sir Purr, the Top Cats and the Panthers’ PurrCusion. Ten percent of sales that day will go to the Miracle League of Charlotte.
City Barbeque aims at competition-style barbecue (and if you’re ever been around a barbecue contest, you get the idea – lots of low/slow/smoke), including ribs, pork, brisket and smoked chicken. The banana pudding was named as one of the 10 best in the country by Paula Deen Magazine. It has recently opened locations at 11212 Providence Road West and 1514 Galleria Blvd., off Monroe Road near Matthews. It’s part of a national fast-casual chain based in Ohio.
