Cargo firm that works with Amazon.com now flying from Charlotte
An air cargo service that works with online retailer Amazon.com is now operating from Charlotte Douglas International Airport, airport officials said Monday.
The airport was contacted mid-summer by ABX Air “regarding available cargo space and ramp space to accommodate 767 aircraft for an undisclosed client,” the airport said. ABX Air now operates from a 43,000 square-foot cargo building at the airport, with flights beginning in August.
Ohio-based Air Transport Services Group announced in March agreements with Amazon Fulfillment Services, an Amazon.com subsidiary, to operate an air cargo network to serve Amazon customers. The agreements included leasing 20 Boeing 767s to Amazon, with the planes operated by ATSG’s airlines, ABX Air and Air Transport International.
In March, Amazon executive Dave Clark said the agreement with ATSG supplemented Amazon’s delivery network “to support one- and two-day delivery for customers.” Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.
The retailer showed off its first Amazon Prime Air branded air cargo plane in August.
