Gearing up to launch its ultra high-speed Internet service locally, AT&T has named Joe Giarmo as its GigaPower market manager for the Charlotte area.
In a statement Monday morning, AT&T said Giarmo will be responsible for raising awareness and informing customers about the benefits of its high-speed GigaPower network.
The service operates on a fiber network, promises speeds up to 20 times faster than conventional Internet speeds and allows users to download 25 songs in less than a second.
AT&T previously started rolling out GigaPower in parts of the Triangle area in late 2014, including Raleigh and Chapel Hill. The company is working on launching GigaPower in parts of Charlotte, Durham and Greensboro, too, though it hasn’t provided a timetable yet.
“We’ve seen strong demand for U-verse with AT&T GigaPower where service is already available,” Giarmo said in the statement. “This is a game-changing experience for our customers, and I’m excited to help ensure everyone in Charlotte knows just how much AT&T GigaPower has to offer.”
Giarmo previously managed AT&T retail operations for multiple locations in Charlotte and is an active community leader. According to his LinkedIn profile, Giarmo is a 2007 graduate of Central Michigan University and has been with AT&T since November 2009.
