Charlotte gas prices fall 6 cents from last week
Prices at gas pumps across the U.S. continued to fall over the last week. In Charlotte, drivers are now saving an average of $1.13 per gallon of gas compared with this time last year.
The summer driving season, which runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, ended with the national average gas price at its lowest point for the Labor Day holiday in more than a decade, according to a report this week from auto group AAA.
Prices should stay down as the price of oil remains low and as stations switch over to cheaper winter-blend gasoline in mid-September, AAA said.
The average price of a gallon of unleaded gas fell below $2 in South Carolina, which has the cheapest gas in the country, said AAA, which surveys 120,000 stations across the U.S. to determine average costs.
Below are the average gas prices regionally and nationally.
Charlotte | North Carolina | South Carolina | National | |
Current | $2.19 | $2.18 | $1.97 | $2.38 |
Week ago | $2.25 | $2.23 | $2.01 | $2.45 |
Year ago | $3.32 | $3.34 | $3.16 | $3.43 |
