Updated list: Who has come out against, in favor of NC’s House Bill 2
A growing number of corporations, universities, performing artists, states, cities and other prominent names have come out against North Carolina’s controversial new LGBT measure since Gov. Pat McCrory signed it into law March 23. Some business groups, often smaller and conservative, have come out in favor of it.
The new LGBT law, known as House Bill 2, sets a statewide definition of protected classes of citizens that doesn’t include sexual orientation and gender identity. The new law means schools and local governments cannot adopt more inclusive rules. It also means transgender individuals must use the bathroom that corresponds with the gender on their birth certificate.
Below is the latest list of those who have spoken against and those in favor of the LGBT measure. Some, including McCrory’s former employer Duke Energy, have said they oppose discrimination but have not taken a stand directly on the measure.
