Body found in car submerged at NC golf course pond

Authorities are investigating after pulling a body from a car submerged in a pond at a North Carolina golf course.

Police were called at around 10:45 a.m. Sunday to Longleaf Golf Course and Family Club in Southern Pines after a resident spotted the body in the pond, according to Capt. Charles Campbell of the Southern Pines Police.

A body was pulled out of the water, and police deployed a dive team to make sure no one else was inside the car, officials said.

Investigators think the car went into the water overnight and no one saw it until daylight, police said. The name of the person found inside hasn’t been released.

The incident appears to be a motor vehicle accident, and no foul play was involved, Campbell told news outlets.

A CBS North Carolina photographer said there is no road near the pond, which is between two fairways, according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.
