Speaking out on a broad range of topics, approximately 200 people gathered in Marshall Park to mark the second anniversary of Moral Monday protests.

Demonstrators weighed in on the raging national discussion about police officers’ use of force against minorities, but also spoke about the environment, education and women’s rights.

Corine Mack, the president of the Charlotte chapter of the NAACP, urged attendees to take their frustrations out at the voting booth.

“We have leaders who have not led. What we do plan to do?” She asked the crowd.

“Vote them out,” the crowd yelled back.

She later told the Observer: “What people really want is for the people in power to act in their best interests, and when they don’t, (people) really they need to exercise their political power.”

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police had a small presence at the protest, but reported no arrests.

The Charlotte demonstration happened just days after Moral Monday protests returned to the N.C. Legislative Building on Wednesday.

The demonstrations began after Republicans gained control of both legislative chambers and the governor’s office for the first time in more than a century. The (Raleigh) News & Observer contributed.
