Body found during search for missing swimmer in Mountain Island Lake
The body of a 19-year-old swimmer was found Friday afternoon, a day after he went missing on Mountain Island Lake.
A rescue team recovered Jacob Ryan Turner’s body from the lake shortly before 1 p.m., Mount Holly Police officials said.
Officials were called to the lake Thursday evening after Turner, of Mount Holly, was reported to have gone underwater and didn’t resurface. He was with a group of swimmers near a wooded area near Mountain Island Road, police said.
A multi-agency rescue team searched for Turner until 10:30 p.m. Thursday, before calling off the search for the night.
The search continued Friday morning as a recovery effort, police said.
The incident is still under investigation, officials said.
