Billy Graham son-in-law Danny Lotz found unresponsive in pool

Danny Lotz, the husband of evangelist Billy Graham’s daughter Anne, was in the intensive care unit of a hospital after his wife found him unresponsive in the pool of their Raleigh home on Monday.

“There are no answers yet as to the outcome,” Anne Graham Lotz said on Facebook late Monday. “The family is standing firm in faith, trusting Jesus. Thank you for your prayers.”

Anne Graham Lotz is a Raleigh-based evangelist who has just released an updated version of her 2001 book, “Heaven: My Father’s House.”

Lotz found her husband in the pool about 3:45 p.m. Monday, according to her Facebook page. She said her husband is receiving “excellent care” in a hospital.

At 11 a.m. Tuesday, Danny Lotz remained in ICU, his wife said on Facebook.

“There is no further update or information available at this time,” she said. “The family appreciates your continued prayers as they wait and trust in the Lord.”

Danny Lotz is diabetic and has undergone dialysis for six years, according to a family friend, WRAL television station reported.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, according to the station.

At 6-foot-7, Danny Lotz was a sophomore forward on the 1956-’57 North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball team – the second undefeated national champion in NCAA basketball history and the first Atlantic Coast Conference team to win a title.

Lotz, a 78-year-old retired dentist, has been involved nationally with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

In a surprise ceremony in February, Lotz was given the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, which recognizes outstanding North Carolinians for their lifetime of service to the state.

“I had no idea, but I’m so blessed and thankful for it,” Lotz told The (Durham) Herald-Sun.

Lotz is a native of Northport, N.Y. He and his wife have three grown children.
