Lupie’s Cafe damaged in overnight hit-and-run on Monroe Road
Lupie’s Cafe on Monroe Road is closed Thursday after a driver crashed into the front of the building overnight.
The wreck happened around 2:15 a.m. in the 2700 block of Monroe Road.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Zakariya Azizy, 25, was issued a citation for hit-and-run after the wreck.
The wreck damaged the front porch and entrance to the restaurant, and the eatery will be closed until repairs can be made.
Owner Lupie Duran told Fox 46 Charlotte that she hopes to reopen in a week.

It’s not the first time the restaurant has been damaged by a wreck. In 1999, a driver was charged with DWI after police said she lost control of her car and crashed into the restaurant. The restaurant sustained about $2,000 in damage.
