Off-duty CMPD officer arrested on DWI charges while driving his own car
An off-duty Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer was charged Saturday with driving while impaired in his own car, authorities said.
Officers with CMPD’s DWI Task Force arrested officer Shaheen Fadel and charged him with DWI. Fadel is a patrol officer in the Metro Division, and was hired last February.
As is CMPD’s protocol, the department placed Fadel on administrative leave pending the outcome of a criminal and internal investigation.
Two CMPD officers were charged with DWI in 2015, one while on duty and the other while off duty.
The on-duty officer was charged with DWI and other offenses after police said he crashed his marked cruiser into a truck while responding to a traffic wreck three hours into his shift.
