Franklin Graham, Samaritan’s Purse sending winter relief supplies to Nepal
Evangelist Franklin Graham and his Boone-based Samaritan’s Purse plan to send relief supplies on Friday to Nepal, where survivors of an April earthquake face deadly winter conditions.
The international Christian relief organization responded quickly in Nepal when the quake struck and has continued to work with victims of the disaster. The massive quake killed nearly 9,000 people and damaged 1 million homes.
Nepal’s prime minister recently appealed to Samaritan’s Purse to help his people survive the winter, the organization said.
Samaritan’s Purse staff will load the supplies onto a 747 cargo jet at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Friday afternoon.
Supplies include jackets, gloves and other winter clothes, along with blankets, hot water bottles, stoves and solar lamps.
The plane is expected to land in Nepal on Sunday morning. The cargo will then be converted into winterization kits that will be distributed to 5,000 homes.
Nepal’s prime minister will join Samaritan’s Purse staff next week to help distribute the kits.
