Rescue missions square off over Super Bowl
The Charlotte Rescue Mission is in a fun rivalry with the Denver Rescue Mission over the outcome of the Super Bowl.
If Carolina loses, the Rev. Tony Marciano, CEO of the Charlotte Rescue Mission, will wear a Peyton Manning jersey and film himself doing a touchdown dance on the roof of the mission, 907 W. First St.
If Denver loses, the CEO of the Denver Rescue Mission, Brad Meuli, will have to perform the famous Cam Newton pose on the roof of his mission while wearing a Cam Newton jersey.
Marciano said the message to mission clients is they can be clean and sober and don’t have to get high or drunk to have a good time.
“We are modeling in front of them the very behavior we want them to embrace – enjoy life clean and sober,” Marciano said.
The Charlotte Rescue mission provides a free 90-day Christian residential program for men and women who are addicted to alcohol or other drugs and are predominately homeless.
