Uptown street closures begin Wednesday morning for Speed Street

Uptown Charlotte street closures are scheduled to begin Wednesday morning for the Circle K and Kangaroo Speed Street festival.

About 250,000 fans are expected at the three-day event that begins Thursday.

Speed Street features live musical entertainment, appearances by top NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers and celebrities, and an assembly of NASCAR show cars and simulators. The Band Perry, Kellie Pickler and Chris Young are among the musical acts scheduled to perform.

These blocks will close at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and stay closed until 8 a.m. Sunday:

▪ Tryon Street between Trade and Stonewall streets.

▪ Levine Avenue of the Arts between Church and Tryon streets.

▪ At 6:30 p.m., one lane at 500 S. Tryon St. between Levine Avenue of the Arts and Stonewall Street will open for the Green deck to exit.

These blocks will close Thursday:

▪ At 9 a.m., Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Church and College streets (lanes open to access loading dock at Wells Fargo).

▪ At 9:30 a.m., Fourth Street between Church and College.

▪ At 9:30 a.m., Third Street between Church and College.

▪ At 6 p.m., two lanes of College Street between Stonewall Street and the 500 S. College St. parking deck.

▪ At 6:30 p.m., College Street exit of the Green.

At 9:30 a.m. Friday, these blocks will be closed and will remain closed until 8 a.m. Sunday:

▪ Fourth Street between Church and College.

▪ Third Street between Church and College.

▪ Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Church and College.
